About Me
About Me

I have been writing poetry for over thirteen years, and have published over a dozen poems in various literary journals, most recently Juniper, Rogue Agent, and Noble/Gas Qtrly. I also have an MPhil in history from New York University, and taught English as a second language for fifteen years. In 2014, I co-founded Sweet Action Poetry Collective with Mirielle Clifford and with the help of Emily Blair, it has become a vibrant community of poets, with readings and publications to promote our group’s work.

I have edited individual poems, chapbook collections and curated Sweet Action readings. I will work with you to bring your strongest, most authentic voice to whatever project you need help with. My specialty is deep reading, an intuitive understanding of what you, as the writer, are trying to say, bringing you closer to that ideal communication.

Marine Cornuet

“Julie is an efficient, dedicated, and focused reader; she didn’t hesitate to spend many hours on my chapbook manuscript. Her feedback was not only spot-on but also very gracefully delivered. She asked many relevant questions, was extremely patient, and gave me important pointers that I took into consideration. Thanks to her incredibly valuable help, I was able to polish my manuscript to make it the best it could be. It was picked up by a publisher soon-after, and I can’t express how grateful I am to Julie for her help and support of my work.”

—Marine Cornuet, author of Keeping the Chaff and the Wheat

“Julie Hart has provided great insight into the content and form of my poetry and short stories. She reads precisely and her suggestions are specific and clear. She offers them with a great deal of ease and humor which communicates that the practice of writing is for the long haul and each piece is part of the process of discovering yourself as a writer and a human being. You feel safe sharing very personal work with Julie. At the same time she can give you the objective, experienced eye your work needs.”
